Today was the world-famous Comrades Ultramarathon here in South Africa!

There were thousands of contestants from around the world running in competition on the 90 km (56 mile) intercity course from Pietermaritzburg to Durban.
The Comrades was run for the first time on 24 May 1921 (Empire Day), and with the exception of a break during World War II, as well as the COVID-19 pandemic-impacted 2020, has been run every year since. To date, over 300,000 runners have completed the race.[7]
The race was the idea of World War I veteran Vic Clapham, to commemorate the South African soldiers killed during the war. Clapham, who had endured a 2,700-kilometre route march through sweltering German East Africa, wanted the memorial to be a unique test of the physical endurance of the entrants. The constitution of the race states that one of its primary aims is to “celebrate mankind’s spirit over adversity”.
With over 18 000 international runners from 75 countries around the world in 2023, the Comrades Ultramarathon has been called “The Ultimate Human Race.”

A hearty “Well done!” to all the contestants who even attempted this incredible feat and test of human endurance! Runners from 20 to 80 years old have competed. The winner, Tete Dijana, finished in just over 5 hours, with many other determined runners pressing on to finish later. Well done, Tete!

As the Scripture says, “Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.” (Hebrews 12:1-2)
